There is no agreed single definition of an Early Career Academic and/or Researcher. The British Educational Research Association suggests that an ECAR is someone who is completing their postgraduate studies or is within 5 years of completion. The UK Research Councils and the Research Excellence Framework define an ECAR as someone who has specifically finished their doctoral studies and is within 5 years of defending their thesis. Regardless of these definitions, it is important to reflect on how each member feels about their career stage and use a self-defining definition that suits them best as student or scholar.
This page contains useful information and resources which members will find valuable in developing themselves, both within the academy and beyond.
